Frequency of seizures in the Alzheimer's disease spectrum Lead Investigator: Jonathan Voeglein Institution : Department of Neurology LMU Munich and DZNE Munic E-Mail : jonathan.voeglein@med.uni-muenchen.de Proposal ID : 711 Proposal Description: Our specific aim for our proposed work with the NACC data set is to find out whether there is a difference in frequency of seizures between individuals with sporadic Alzheimer's disease (AD), presymptomatic sporadic Alzheimer's disease (preAD), autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease (ADAD), presymptomatic autosomal dominant Alzheimer's disease (preADAD) and normal controls (nc). For comparison with ADAD and preADAD publications and data derived from the DIAN observational study are planned to be included. We hypothesize that subjects in a state of the Alzheimer's disease spectrum (AD, preAD, ADAD and preADAD) show a higher frequency of seizures than normal controls. In particular in context of many diverging evidence regarding seizures in the AD spectrum we seek to unveil correlations and potentially substantiate the suspicion of a causal connection of the different states of the AD spectrum with the vulnerability for seizures. This knowledge might be considered for treatment decisions regarding seizures in AD.
